Smiley's Workshop Part 9 begins using the Arduino Projects Kit in the April 2009 issue of Nuts&Volts magazine. Each article will be posted in the Smiley's Workshop downloads sections about one month after the magazine publishes it.

Over time we will learn simple ways to use these components, and more importantly we will use them to drill down into the deeper concepts of C programming, AVR microcontroller architecture, and embedded systems principles.

With the components in this kit you can:

Blink 8 LEDs (Cylon Eyes)
Read a pushbutton and 8-bit DIP switch
Sense Voltage, Light, and Temperature
Make Music on a piezo element
Sense edges and gray levels
Optically isolate voltages

This kit includes the Arduino Duemilanove which uses the ATmega328 (unlike earlier Arduino's that used the ATmega168 - double the memory at no additional charge!). To use this board you have to select it in the Arduino IDE under Tools\Board\Arduino w/ Atmega328. And this board's bootloader runs at 57600 baud.
